Tuesday 5 July
Another fine day. Went with Pat, Barbara and Bob up the Mam Uidhe path and climbed a ridge called Druim na Cluain-airighe from which we could return direct to Creag Eiridh (though the last part of the descent was a struggle down a precipitous slope through head-high bracken and thick shrubbery – not recommended). In the evening we returned to Doune for a memorable dinner: bouillabaisse, roast lamb, cardamom ice cream with shortbread, Scottish cheese board and coffee, with some excellent Italian wines.

Pause on our way down the ridge. In the background, a cruise ship anchored off the jetty at Inverie.

Wednesday 6 July
Yet another fine day. Barbara, Bob and I climbed a remote and beautiful mountain Beinn na Caillich in the north of Knoydart (with a lift in the Land Rover part way along the Mam Uidhe path to get us started).
[The memory chip in the camera was almost full by now, and I didn't think to bring another one, so very few photos from now on.]

Thursday 7 July
Low cloud and drizzle. Bob and I used this as an excuse to opt out of an excursion up Ladhar Bheinn (which in fact had to be aborted because of foul weather). Spent the morning in the cottage, washing clothes and cleaning up the kitchen. After lunch, in drier conditions, wandered round to the far side of Inverie. Dinner at the Old Forge.

Friday 8 July
Fine weather once again. The whole party went in the Land Rover for a slow and very bumpy ride over the Mam Uidhe pass to the remote Inverguserain farm in north-west Knoydart, where we walked along the coast and had a picnic lunch.

Saturday 9 July
Up early for the long journey home: 30 minute ferry trip to Mallaig, 3 hour train journey to Tyndrum, 7 hour drive back to Leeds.
