Old 35mm slides digitised

Picscanner Picscanner and phone Kodak scanner

As a Covid lockdown project, I decided to digitise my old collection of 35mm slides, which had lain unlooked at in a cupboard for about 50 years or more. To start with, I used a cheap little gizmo called a Picscanner to photograph the slides on my mobile phone. The resulting image was better than you might expect from such a simple procedure. The resolution was very sharp, but the colour reproduction was not good. I don't know whether this was because of the illumination in the Picscanner or whether it was due to my elderly phone. So I decided to splash out on a "proper" scanner.

After checking online reviews I settled for a Kodak SLIDE N SCAN, which is very easy to operate and gives impressively good results.

After the best part of 60 years the colours on some of the slides have faded quite badly. In general, Agfa film has lasted much better than Kodak. After scanning, I put the images through PhotoShop to improve the colour balance. This restored some of the faded colours, but several of the images still have a blue cast that I could not entirely eliminate.

Here are links to the collections that I have digitised so far.
